Start by placing the center weight on the covered frame and roll golf balls along the edge until they orbit the center weight. Students ask and answer their own questions about changes to gravity and its impact on the orbiting balls. Creativity abounds as students imagine the center weight as the sun and golf balls as the planets that orbit it. Then reward budding curiosity by allowing students to test the gravity wells of weighted objects found in the classroom.
The durable ABS frame features hook-and-loop fastener straps to keep the spandex and cordura cover taught. The steel center weight is powder-coated for longevity and features a beveled edge that nests easily into the cover. Included lesson direction is adaptable for Grades K-4 and 5-8, and details setup instructions, activities by grade level, learning objectives, and teaching suggestions to expand lessons.
