Drama meets engineering as students choreograph robot dance with code!

If your students are still unsure of which STEAM career is right for them, this all-encompassing kit will give them a taste of everything! Students will be immersed in real-world examples of how drones are being used for good in the world, then follow in the footsteps of today's drone designers as they collaborate to costume, choreograph, and code drones in their own creative performances. From clothing design to aerodynamics to coding, students will use the engineering design process to discover myriad skills in a blended learning environment. When lessons end, store all equipment in a convenient plastic tub (included). Digital curriculum includes a PDF of the instructor guide and 1 class license to Drone Designers online course. Kit accommodates 30 students. Recommended for Upper Elementary to Middle School.

Standards: Aligns with NGSS, CCSS.

Next Generation Science Standards*:

  • 3-5-ETS1-1: Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.
  • 3-5-ETS1-2: Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
  • 4-PS3-4: Apply scientific principles to design, construct, and test a device that converts energy from one form to another.
  • MS-ETS1-2: Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
  • MS-ETS1-3: Analyze data from tests to determine similarities and differences among several design solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria for success.

The ISTE Standards:

  • ISTE 1d: Students understand the fundamental concepts of technology operations, demonstrate the ability to choose, use and troubleshoot current technologies and are able to transfer their knowledge to explore emerging technologies.
  • ISTE 5d: Students understand how automation works and use algorithmic thinking to develop a sequence of steps to create and test automated solutions.
  • ISTE 7c: Students contribute constructively to project teams, assuming various roles and responsibilities to work effectively toward a common goal.
