Collaborate with classmates to conceptualize, sketch, and build your own air-powered machines! Pneumatic devices use pressurized air for a mechanical advantage. Using syringes, tubing, and a variety of engineering materials, students create their own pneumatic machine like a crane, grabber arm, or an elevator lift by following the Engineering Design Process to create the most functional design. Through the process, students will also learn the difference between pneumatics and hydraulics, understand what pressure is, and discern between compressible and incompressible fluids. Included lesson direction details setup, activities by grade level, learning objectives, and teaching suggestions to expand lessons. Accommodates 24 students. Recommended for Elementary and up.
