Start to STEM Electricity & Magnetism Kits
Spark curiosity and build foundational STEM skills with a hands-on science curriculum focused on electricity and magnetism. From simple circuits to electromagnetic experiments, students explore real-world applications through engaging activities that promote inquiry, experimentation, and design while using the engineering design process. The curriculum is a great addition to Career and Technical Education programs as lessons foster interest in fields such as advanced manufacturing and construction.
Using Classroom Attractions Sets, learners investigate magnetic poles, attraction, and repulsion, building a strong conceptual understanding of magnetism. The curriculum encourages creativity and problem-solving as students design magnetic games and inventions. With STEM kits like StaticStudy, they visualize and understand static electricity in an interactive way. Tools like Caddystack, Paper Circuits, and Bristlebots allow students to build various types of circuits. They can even send messages in Morse code to reinforce communication and logic skills. Then students apply their knowledge in a hands-on challenge as they assemble electromagnets.
Each activity supports STEM education goals by fostering collaboration, critical thinking, and real-world relevance. This curriculum deepens science understanding and prepares students for future learning and potential career pathways. Assembly required. Accommodates 24 students. Recommended for Upper Elementary.
Standards: Aligns with NGSS.

Next Generation Science Standards*:
- 3-5-ETS1-1: Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.
- 3-5-ETS1-2: Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
- 3-5-ETS1-3: Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.
- 3-PS2-3: Ask questions to determine cause and effect relationships of electric or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other.
- 3-PS2-4: Define a simple design problem that can be solved by applying scientific ideas about magnets.
- 4-PS3-2: Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electric currents.
- 4-PS3-4: Apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.
- 4-PS4-3: Generate and compare multiple solutions that use patterns to transfer information.
- 5-PS1-1: Develop a model to describe that matter is made of particles too small to be seen.
- 5-PS1-3: Make observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties.
