MathemActive Tower of Hanoi Mini Puzzle
Solve a tower puzzle using the fewest moves possible!
Working in small groups, pairs, or individually, students complete the Tower of Hanoi puzzle. To begin, evenly space the three ABS towers and stack the 5 foam rings in descending order of diameter on the first tower. Working in small groups, pairs, or individually, students move the pieces on the first stand to the third stand using the center stand as an intermediary, but there's a catch! Students can only move one ring at a time and cannot place a larger ring on top of a smaller one. Students use logic to reach the solution that requires the least number of moves, solved using a binary math equation.
This lightweight, portable game is best played on a tabletop. Kit includes 3 towers (12"H x 12"W), 5 rings (14", 12", 10", 8", 6" dia; all are 2"H), and lesson direction adaptable for grades K-4 and 5-8. The included lesson direction details setup instructions, activities by grade level, learning objectives, and teaching suggestions to expand lessons. Recommended for Elementary and up.
