Introduce students to programming and robotics with Mai-Z the MouseBot, an education-focused robot built for the BBC micro:bit. It's easy for students ages 8–14 to get started while still allowing them to take on more advanced coding challenges as their knowledge grows. Students build real coding skills while exploring robotics, automation, and computer science career pathways.

Screen-Free, Drag-and-Drop, or AI Integration Coding Possibilities

For classrooms limiting screen time, screen-free coding allows hands-on, unplugged programming. Early coders can also program Mai-Z using MakeCode's drag-and-drop block-based editor. The MouseBot is also fully compatible with MakeCode CreateAI, enabling gesture-based control and AI-powered coding projects that introduce real-world artificial intelligence concepts. This flexibility makes it ideal for STEM classes, coding clubs, makerspaces, and after-school programs.

Explore Robotics with Advanced Sensors and Interactive Features

Mai-Z includes line-following sensors, ultrasonic distance sensors, and edge-detecting capabilities for authentic robotics challenges. Students can code collision avoidance, table-edge detection, and precision navigation tasks. Four programmable ZIP LEDs, an onboard speaker, pen holder, and scoop allow creative design challenges and competitive STEM activities.

Support Computer Science and Robotics Career Pathways

Mai-Z aligns with Information Technology, Robotics and Automation, and Engineering career clusters. Students develop computational thinking, programming logic, sensor integration, and problem-solving skills used in real-world robotics development. From accelerometer-based steering to compass-guided navigation, learners apply built-in micro:bit technology in meaningful, career-connected ways.

Built for micro:bit Classrooms

Designed specifically for BBC micro:bit v1 and v2 (not included), Mai-Z connects through an edge connector with easy-access buttons. The enclosed, sturdy chassis protects the inserted micro:bit while delivering smooth and accurate motor control. A rechargeable LiPo battery with USB-C charging eliminates the need for disposable batteries. Accommodates 3 students. Recommended for Elementary to Middle School.

Benefits for STEM Learning

  • Builds coding, computational thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Encourages robotics, automation, and computer science career exploration
  • Supports block-based, screen-free, and AI-powered coding
  • Programmable robot designed for BBC micro:bit v1 and v2
